Volunteer Dungeon Masters Wanted

GamesHaven is actively seeking volunteer Dungeon Masters to host regular one shot sessions for our growing RPG community.

As many of you know, our regular DM is currently dealing with significant personal challenges and has had to step back from running games for the foreseeable future. We fully support them. In the meantime, we need experienced and enthusiastic storytellers to help keep our tables alive.

We have players. We need Game Masters.

Systems We Are Looking For

We are particularly interested in one shots for:

• Dungeons and Dragons
• Call of Cthulhu
• Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
• Pathfinder
• Other fantasy or horror tabletop RPG systems
• MorkBorg
• Indie games

A Night Where Dice Roll, Costumes Rule, and Pumpkins Glow

Halloween lands differently at Games Haven.
Thisn’t a quiet evening of “just one more turn.” It’s Nottingham’s tabletop hub turning out the lights, breaking out the board games, and letting the monsters take the main tables.

We’re opening our doors from 7 PM for a night built around everything we do best — gaming, community, and a touch of chaos. Expect cosplay and fancy dress contests, a pumpkin-carving showdown (done safely at home first), and over sixty themed board games ready to play on demand.

Members get in free, day visitors pay £7.50 for the night — still less than a cinema ticket, with a lot more dice.

Bring Your Game, Bring Your Costume

Games Haven thrives on the mix. One table might be battling through Arkham Horror, the next laughing over Mysterium or Betrayal at House on the Hill.

If you’ve never gamed here before, it’s the perfect entry point: open tables, friendly faces, and staff on hand to help new players jump into the fun.

Our regulars already know that the Friday slot is built for everyone — from CCG players winding down after tournaments to D&D GMs looking for inspiration between campaigns. This one just comes with cobwebs and pumpkins.

We keep accessibility and inclusion at the centre of every event. The Halloween Night follows our Event Accessibility Policy — wide table spacing, clear walkways, companion passes for those who need them, and a calm space available if the energy gets too much.

Located at 92 Lower Parliament Street, Games Haven sits in Nottingham’s Creative Quarter — minutes from tram and bus links, surrounded by the city’s food spots and nightlife.

Dungeons & Dragons still has weight behind it. But it’s no longer the only voice at the table.

More groups are embracing flexible, narrative-first systems. Some want shorter prep. Others want settings that feel more inclusive or emotionally resonant. And some just want a chance to try something fresh. Systems like Cairn, MÖRK BORG, Wanderhome, Coyote & Crow, and Trophy Gold are making regular appearances at our RPG tables.

We’re also seeing a rise in groups supporting neurodivergent players and alternative formats, including GM-less storytelling and short-form games. Our RPG Room isn’t just about fantasy campaigns anymore. It’s where imagination is taking new forms.

Card Games Are Getting Personal

Yes, competitive play is still strong. But the reasons people are showing up with decks in hand are changing.

It’s not just about winning. Players are turning up for the stories behind the cards, the feel of a favourite faction, or the vibe of the local meta. Flesh and Blood, Lorcana, Magic, and One Piece each bring in their own loyal mix of players who value more than just efficiency.

What matters is community. We’re seeing people return each week not just for prizes, but for friendly rivalries, post-game analysis, and the social rhythm of trading card culture. That’s what keeps our Saturdays vibrant and the tables full.

Skirmish Games Lead the Wargaming Charge

Miniatures gaming isn’t shrinking. It’s adapting. More people are stepping into skirmish formats first.

Games like Kill Team, Necromunda, Stargrave, and Deadzone are more than gateway games. They’re core parts of hobbyists’ lives. With faster setups, smaller armies, and tighter rules, these systems let players get more games in with less friction.

And they’re painting again. Kitbashing and custom terrain are making a comeback, especially on our Wednesday Skirmish Night. Players are creating not just armies, but stories on the table.

One of the strongest trends we’ve seen this year is the shift from single-focus players to hobby explorers.

Someone might play Lorcana on Saturday, then join a Kill Team league on Wednesday and GM a cyberpunk RPG the following Tuesday. Players aren’t sticking to lanes. They’re following curiosity.

That’s why our weekly schedule is designed to support mixed interests. We’re here for card sharks, lore-lovers, mini painters, and board game socialites. And especially those who are a bit of each.
